Our Story
Dan grew up in a church-going family, but he never wanted to go to church when he was younger because he never saw any relevance it held to everyday life. Then, after seeing his older brother come to Christ, Dan remembers thinking to himself "this Christianity thing isn't so bad." A little while later, a fellow Boy Scout came to his house passing out Gospel tracts. As soon as he had gone, Dan took it up to his room, flipped straight to the back, and prayed the prayer that was there. This started a change in his life, and from then on, he was actually excited to go to church and learn about the Bible. Dan began to grow deeper in his relationship with Jesus first through his church youth group. He continued to grow and see God's heart for the nations through the Navigators in college and now through his home church.

Sarah grew up learning about Jesus from her parents and her family's church. She vaguely remembers the Sunday when she first understood the Gospel in her 4 or 5-year old way, confessed to God that she was a sinner, and prayed that He would forgive her and make her His daughter. Since that time, the Gospel has become slowly and steadily more clear and real to her. In addition to teaching her about the Gospel and life with Jesus, her parents instilled a world vision in her, which contributed to her interest in languages and other cultures. This has helped her see God's heart for all the world to know and glorify Him.

Family
Dan and Sarah met each other while they were both students at the University of Kansas. They got married on July 31, 2004, and their first child, Timothy, was born on March 3, 2008.

Professional Training and Experience
Dan received a B.A. in Architectural Engineering. He worked for Haris Engineering, a small structural engineering firm in Overland Park, KS, where he earned his P.E. in 2006. Sarah received a B.A. in Linguistics and an M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language. Before starting at EMI, she taught English to immigrants and refugees at a community college in Overland Park. They moved to Costa Rica to work with EMI in June, 2008.

Ministry Experience
Dan and Sarah were both involved with the Navigators throughout their time at KU. They served on the student leadership team, where they received training in several areas of ministry, including evangelism, discipleship, and leading topical, investigative, and inductive Bible studies. Dan and Sarah were also involved with a ministry reaching out to international students. Sarah has been part of several different mission projects in Ukraine and Russia. Some of her favorite ministry experiences have included leading investigative Bible discussions with non-believers and endeavoring to give other believers a passion and desire for expanding God's kingdom around the world. Dan's ministry passion is for discipling, teaching, and training. He gets excited about sitting down with believers, challenging them in their faith, and helping them to know the Lord better. After graduating from college, Dan spent four months as an intern with EMI in Guatemala. This was a great time that God used to cast a vision for his life and ministry.

Verses to Live By
Before they were married, Dan and Sarah chose Psalm 67 as a passage to consistently pray for their life together.

Psalm 67:
May God be gracious to us and bless us and make His face shine upon us, that Your ways may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations. May the peoples praise You, O God; may all the peoples praise You. May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for You rule the peoples justly and guide the nations of the earth. May the peoples praise You, O God; may all the peoples praise You. Then the land will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us. God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear Him.
